What is Zakat?
Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, an obligatory act of charity that purifies wealth and benefits those in need.
It requires Muslims who meet the nisab (minimum wealth threshold) to donate 2.5% of their qualifying wealth each lunar year.
Who Should Pay Zakat?

Who Can Receive Zakat?
The Quran specifies eight categories of recipients (Surah At-Tawbah 9:60):
- The poor
- The needy
- Zakat administrators
- Those whose hearts are to be reconciled
- To free captives
- Those in debt
- In the cause of Allah
- Wayfarers (travelers in need)
