What is Sadaqah?

Sadaqah is voluntary charity given out of compassion, love, friendship or generosity.

Unlike Zakat which is obligatory, Sadaqah is given willingly beyond what we owe from our wealth. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "Sadaqah extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire." (Tirmidhi)

Sadaqah can be given at any time, in any amount, to anyone in need. It's not limited to money but includes any act of kindness.
